Course Outline

Folks - As far as I’m concerned, Tom Frank, who holds Sweat Lodges on practically a weekly basis and has run more Lodges in the past 20 years than anyone I know, is truly the "Grandfather" of Sweat Lodges.

Tom’s unique and powerful way of conducting a Sweat Lodge is not only a great example of a beautiful, primitive Lodge, but exudes a healing power unlike any other I’ve known. As a builder, Tom will teach you how to design a sound and solid Lodge that pays tribute to various primitive cultures, and through his gifts as a shaman, singer, and drummer, Tom will lead you in various ceremonies that will honor our past and bring to you a tremendous sense of healing and awareness.

Bottom line is I’m honored that Tom Frank will be teaching this class – and I know it’s going to be epic.

Make the most of it.

All Good Medicine,

-Tom Brown Jr.

Hey Guys –

As we begin, I want to thank Tom Brown Jr. for inviting me to share my passion for the Sweat Lodge with all of you. I am thrilled with the chance to work with you and to explore both the practical and spiritual elements that go into building and preparing your Lodge.

Our last Sweat Lodge class, in November, 2007, proved to us that there’s a whole bunch of Tracker folks who are as passionate and energized about Sweat Lodges as I am, so we knew that we had to make time for another one.

This class has a prerequisite of Philosophy I because, although we’ll be doing a lot of physical skills, and we will actually build a new Lodge at the Primitive camp which Tom and many of our Tracker brethren will use and enjoy over the coming years, I really want to dig deep into the spiritual side of the Lodge as well. We’ll get into various methods, chants, songs, and ceremonies that I love, and we’ll get deeper into specific lodges that deal with Visions, Healing, and Worship.

I’m psyched that we’ll be teaching as much inside the lodge as out, in our classic lecture form. And, if enough people are interested and it all goes as well as we hope, we may decide to teach a new type of sweat lodge class each year. I look forward to seeing you in the Pines.

-Tom Frank
