Living with the Earth in WinterDates: January 6-16, 2027Prerequisite: StandardCost: $1250Location: Joseph Citta Boy Scout Camp, NJWinter survival can test our skills to the max. This class covers the necessary skills to survive, and with dirt time, thrive! It will help in various scenarios – in a winter survival situation, practicing cold weather survival skills, or preparing to live through this time of the year in a primitive or semi-primitive way. We will build a group winter shelter and then focus on learning and using our skills while living in the shelter for the duration of the class. This ten-day class builds upon skills already learned in previous classes (such as the Standard class) and adapting them to cold weather conditions. Additional techniques will be taught such as cold weather shelter, proper smoke ventilation in the shelter, fire making and maintaining a fire safely within a shelter, and many other necessary skills for surviving well in all cold weather conditions. Preparing for wintertime will also be covered: foraging, preserving food, sources of safe water, making hunting weapons such as the spear, and how to effectively use hunting weapons. It can be challenging to camouflage and move undetected on the landscape during these months, but this will be taught to enhance your ability to provide for yourself and your loved ones during these challenging conditions. In addition, students will have the opportunity to learn more about and practice the skills of hunting, fishing, and trapping, and without harming any animals. All this and much more! This season is also a time of turning inwards. Those attending will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a winter landscape along with learning more about the philosophy of survival and living with the earth. While working on skills, we will share lessons of our own experiences with survival, the philosophy of the Lineage, and the understanding of dreams and visions that tend to flourish in these months. This will be a very special and unique experience for everyone, whether you are newer to these skills, more experienced, or just want some more practice and Dirt Time…or should we say snow time! We are extremely excited to run this class and look forward to seeing you there!“Full survival or living with the Earth in wintertime is one of the greatest gifts…it teaches us to rely fully on the Creator, sacred Earth Mother, and the gifts we have been given as her children. When we do not fight against it, we become one, it becomes our kin.” – Tom Brown, Jr.
