INTERNS WANTED

INTERNS WANTED

Due to the changes in the Spring schedule we are now taking intern applications for the summer and fall.  We are looking for Interns who can start in a few months.  Please look over the program information below, if you qualify and would like to apply please contact Lisa at lisa@trackerschool.com for an application.

The Tracker School Intern Program

The Tracker School Internship Program offers interested students the opportunity to work with the school for a six month period, providing first-hand experience in what it takes to run a world-renowned wilderness survival school. The program is designed to provide a closer student-to-staff ratio, which allows the Instructor team to focus on the growth of students through lectures, workshops, and time spent in personal interaction with the class.

During their term Interns will be expected to develop a well-rounded set of survival skills, as well as real-world skills in leadership, organization, people management and facilities logistics. As well, your Internship will provide many opportunities for tremendous personal growth on multiple levels.

Mentorship time with Instructors allows each Intern to gain supervised, practical training in both the physical and spiritual skills of survival. Participants in the program are observed during their term, and those that show exceptional growth and ability in their skills may be considered for future placement within the school.

The Role of the Intern

The primary role of the Intern is to provide support for the students by understanding their needs and ensuring that the systems are in place to see them fulfilled. Through their responsibilities, and their guidance of the Volunteer staff, they also provide support for the Instructor team.

Two, 2- person Intern teams work in shifts throughout the week, providing a consistent resource with which students, Volunteers and Instructors can check in. As instructors may not always be on hand, Interns are readily available to answer question or concerns, or direct students to the appropriate personnel.

Interns oversee the day-to-day operation of the kitchen and guide the Volunteers and the student crews in the preparation and clean-up of all meals. They also provide support to the Instructors in the preparation of props and materials for upcoming lectures.

Interns play a role as mentor to the students, and their presence in workshops facilitates a higher student-to-staff ratio, as well as encourages their own growth in both the skills and in their teaching/mentoring abilities.

CARETAKERS NEEDED

The Caretaker Program

Being a caretaker is a unique opportunity to embrace solitude, wilderness living, and care for the sacred land where Tom and Rick learned from Grandfather. The caretaker position is a special role designed to fulfill the need of both the Tracker School's Pine Barrens camp and the students who are seeking to become the best person s/he can be.

The Tracker School accepts four caretakers each year and the caretaker term is one year long. Living as a caretaker is a time to delve deep into the skills of survival, tracking, awareness, philosophy, and living in harmony with the earth.

Making the commitment to spend a year as a caretaker is also an opportunity to forge oneself physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

There is a new change in the caretaker program. Caretakers will now serve as interns for all classes in the Pine Barrens. The main duties of interns is to support the school by cooking meals, helping prepare lectures, and running the school store during class. For further information on interns duties please see the intern hand book which is on the Tracker School web site.

The Caretaker experience is not for everyone. It is a challenging experience that demands self-motivation, respect, responsibility, and humility. Caretaking is not an experience that is designed for those trying to run away from society and their life problems. It is not for those who are seeking to be a "tracker bum" and need a free place to live, or for folks who are seeking a year of complete solitude in the wilderness. Caretaking is not a hand held experience and requires someone who can both spend long periods of time alone, and also assist with classes and students in a positive manner.

Online Store Closed

At this time our online store (for merchandise) is closed until the spring, we just don't have the man power or the stock to carry the store through the winter.

We expect the online school store to open sometime in the Spring for clothing, knives, books and other accessories.

In the next few weeks audio recordings will be available through this website only: http://www.trackeraudio.com/.

Gift certificates are all we have in the store right now (besides classes).

You can purchase one here: http://www.trackerschool.com/store/store_gift.asp

If purchasing for a gift and you don't want it sent to the recipient right away, put your email address is the "recipient email" field It will then get sent to your email and you can print it out and put it in card for them.

When they are ready to use it, they can just call us or mail in the gift certificate (with your name so we can look it up).  The recipient can use it towards classes or merch once we have stuff in stock again.

No Prerequisite for Philosophy 1

Well we have finally done it; all philosophy 1 classes including the week long Philosophy 1 Class and the Philosophy 1 Workshop will no longer require a Standard prerequisite. This change will allow students to join the philosophy track and continue on with any philosophy classes. If a student would like to take classes in any other track they will need to backtrack and take the Standard.

Tom and Tracker have been asked for years to implement this change, so future students could move directly to the philosophy track and Tom has decided that the time is finally right to implement this change. “It is important that we reach as many folks as possible in these troubling times, our mother is dying and we can no longer wait.”
